I chose the PMHNP program because I believed it could make a meaningful impact on the lives I touch. I searched for a high-quality PMHNP program to learn and apply my skills, aiming to bridge gaps in mental health. This is what led me to Herzing.
Herzing's flexible pace allowed me to balance coursework and my personal life. Every course provided valuable content, preparing me for a successful NP career. The professors of those courses all played a crucial role in helping me achieve my goal. Their unique ways of explaining concepts and putting them into practice were very helpful and I know will help me later.
While earning my degree, I faced the huge challenge of managing and staying focused while helping to care for my mom who was diagnosed with stage four Adenocarcinoma three weeks into the start of my program. In April of 2022, she had to have emergency surgery to have her entire right colon removed. If that wasn’t enough, six months later in October of 2022, she had to have her gallbladder removed because it had become gangrenous! Thankfully, she survived her ordeal and is currently thriving as I write this.
Throughout this experience, I realized I was stronger than I thought I was. Through all the hardships, I persevered and conquered my dreams despite all the obstacles.
After graduation, I plan to study for my certification and, fingers crossed, pass on the first attempt. My former preceptors have invited me to join their team, and I will be honored to do so. They’re such a great group I can’t wait to work with!
To fellow students in my field, my advice is to stay determined despite obstacles. We need you to help bridge the gap in mental health care and make a positive impact on others’ lives.
